Dobler Digs Deeper
Matthew Dobler’s Deceptive Tactics:
A Candidate Who Can’t Even Keep His Oath
The integrity of any candidate running for public office is of utmost importance. It forms the foundation on which voters place their trust and make informed decisions. Unfortunately, Matthew Dobler’s recent actions have cast serious doubts on his integrity and fitness to serve as EVMWD District 4 Director. Despite being given a chance to rectify misleading ballot designations, Dobler chose to fabricate credentials rather than come clean, raising significant concerns about his ability to fulfill the role he is seeking.
The Ballot Designation Challenge: A Moment of Truth
Matthew Dobler initially submitted "Water Advocate" and "Water Consultant" as his ballot designations. These titles are meant to give voters a clear understanding of a candidate’s professional background and qualifications. However, concerns quickly arose about the accuracy of these claims, prompting a challenge to the "Water Advocate" designation. The California Elections Code Section 13107 requires that ballot designations must be truthful and reflect the candidate’s actual, recent work experience. Any misleading designations can misinform voters, which is why accuracy is critical.
When the Registrar of Voters contacted Dobler to substantiate his designations, he had a critical opportunity to demonstrate transparency and integrity. Instead, he doubled down on his misleading claims.
A Fake Business Card to Support a Fake Designation
Rather than coming forward with truthful information, Dobler created a fake business card in an attempt to legitimize his fabricated roles. The card claimed that he was a "Water Advocate" and "Water Consultant," under the newly invented company name, "Dobler Incorporated." This is a stark departure from his previously stated affiliations with "Dobler Strategies" and "Southwest Legislative Council." The creation of this business card was a blatant attempt to deceive the Registrar and the voters.
As these business cards are part of the public record, I was able to obtain a copy, which I will share in this post. This piece of evidence underscores the lengths to which Dobler is willing to go to maintain his false narrative, even as the scrutiny of his claims intensifies.
The Registrar’s Decision: A Partial Victory for Truth
After reviewing the challenge, the Registrar of Voters decided to remove the "Water Advocate" designation from Dobler’s ballot, acknowledging that it was not a legitimate reflection of his professional background. However, the "Water Consultant" designation was allowed to remain. The Registrar cited that they must take things at face value since candidates take an oath when applying to be on the ballot.
But here’s the real issue: Dobler’s actions have already shown that he is willing to lie and manipulate facts, even under oath. If he cannot honor the oath required just to get on the ballot, how can the community trust him to uphold any promises or duties if elected?
The Importance of Integrity in Public Office
Public officials must be held to the highest standards of honesty and accountability. Matthew Dobler’s actions—creating fake credentials, lying about his professional background, and attempting to deceive both the Registrar and the voters—demonstrate a clear lack of integrity. His inability to come forward with the truth when directly challenged reveals that he is more concerned with securing a position than with being honest about his qualifications.
For a candidate who cannot even keep an oath at the beginning of his campaign, how can we expect him to act with integrity if given the responsibility to serve our community? The answer is clear: we cannot. Dobler’s actions speak louder than any campaign promises he might make, and they reveal a candidate who is unfit for public office.
Conclusion: Voters Deserve the Truth
As we approach the election, it’s crucial for voters to recognize the true character of the candidates on the ballot. Matthew Dobler has demonstrated that he is willing to fabricate his qualifications and deceive the public just to get elected. This is not the kind of leadership our community deserves.
It is now up to the voters to make an informed decision. A candidate who lies to secure votes and manipulates facts to appear qualified is not someone who can be trusted to serve with honesty and integrity. Remember, if Matthew Dobler has to lie to get your vote, it’s because he knows he isn’t qualified to earn it truthfully.
